We found this title while browsing through Renaissance paint- ings. To be more precise, there was also the word “of” after the word “Portrait”. In this case, it is a portrait of a concrete, that one specific person – one whose identity, however, is unknown. The unknown man is looking at us without disclosing his person and role. We find out nothing informal about him; however, through the painting, we can “get to know” a great deal about everything else.
